Brothers, Sing On! An A Cappella Festival Hosted by the Boston Saengerfest Chorus

  • Wellesley High School 50 Rice Street Wellesley Hills, MA 02481 United States (map)

On Sunday Feb 11, 2018, Wellesley High School will present Brothers, Sing On!, a male voice a cappella festival hosted by the Boston Saengerfest Men’s Chorus.

Headlining the afternoon are the famous Yale Whiffenpoofs. Each year 14 senior Yale men are selected to be members of the “Whiffs,” a tradition that dates back to 1909. Their inimitable style and their performances from “the tables down at Mory’s” to at least one concert in Antarctica have given rise to hundreds of collegiate a cappella groups around the world.

The Handel and Haydn Society Young Men’s Chorus, is a choir for advanced changed and changing male voices that is part of the Vocal Arts Program. This choral program also has three treble choirs for elementary, middle and high school aged singers. In an effort to educate the entire musician, choir members also take musicianship classes.

The Wellesley High School’s Men’s Chorus conducted by Dr. Kevin McDonald will also sing. Each year the Wellesley High choral department performs in numerous formal events, a cappella festivals, and community outreach events providing important opportunities for the singers to share their music with a wide audience and learn from the many other talented groups with whom they perform.

Boston Saengerfest Men’s Chorus is made up of approximately 70 male choristers based in the Greater Boston area. The men of Saengerfest enjoy the camaraderie of singing at weekly rehearsals and performing in four or five concerts each year. The traditional but wide-ranging repertoire includes folk songs, love songs, spirituals and sacred music, classical excerpts, traditional English and Welsh songs and anthems, and an occasional show tune.
